-Frequently Asked Questions-

Where are you located? Do you travel?

I'm based just outside of Gawler about 45 minutes from Adelaide where I have a home studio for posed newborn and baby sessions. I happily travel to many locations including Adelaide, The Hills, Barossa and The Gawler Area. Some of my favourite locations are in Mt Crawford Forest, Para Wirra Recreation Park and West Beach. I love finding new locations to explore with you.

Do you photograph weddings/families with older children/couples/headshots?

I LOVE to shoot families with older children and even adults! I don't usually shoot weddings. They're something that I take on a case by case basis. If you're looking for a traditional wedding photographer, I'm probably not the photographer for you but if you're having a small, unique, intimate wedding that's a bit out of the ordinary, I'd love to hear from you. I am practiced and willing to photograph a wide variety of subjects, if you've got an idea, get in touch, at the very least, I will be able to point you in the direction of someone who can help!

Why is photography so expensive?

This is a question people ask all the time. The simple answer is that for every 1 hour you see me, I spend at least 1-2 working days focusing on your session behind the scenes (sometimes more for bigger sessions). I pay membership fees to the AIPP, as well as training, equipment, insurance, childcare, rent, electricity, and the list goes on. I am a trained professional selling you both my time, no different to a plumber or electrician, as well as my product, no different to a furniture maker. Hand made furniture is also expensive, because someone worked very hard to make it... as did I.

What is the AIPP? What does it mean to be accredited?

The AIPP or Australian Institute of Professional Photographers, is a membership organisation for professional photographers in Australia who meet the requirements of accreditation. Have a look here, if you’d like to learn more about what accreditation means and what it means for you as a consumer.

What is Heartfelt? Why are you a volunteer?

"Heartfelt is a volunteer organisation of professional photographers from all over Australia and New Zealand dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families that have experienced stillbirths, premature births, or have children with serious and terminal illnesses. Heartfelt is dedicated to providing this gift to families in a caring, compassionate manner. All services are provided free of charge."

I remember when a friend lost her son at birth and the images she received from heartfelt were both beautiful and heartbreaking. Those images are some of the only things they have left of their son and they are, as you can imagine, completely invaluable. As a mother, one of the one in four women who has experienced pregnancy loss and as a photographer, I felt it was the least I could do, so when I heard that Heartfelt were looking for more members in Adelaide I signed up.

Can I bring my dog/s along to our family session?

Sure! I love dogs. However if you would like to include your dog in your session, please let me know ahead of time so we can chose an appropriate dog friendly location. Because we will be outdoors and there may be other people around, make sure you don’t forget your leash, and something to clean up any little accidents.

Can I print my own files?

If you have purchased the high resolution digital files then yes, you absolutely can print them yourself, however I can not guarantee the quality of any images printed by a third party.

Can you recommend a printer?

If you are wanting to print your own images, I highly recommend Atkins, here in Adelaide. They’re a family run business and the oldest lab in Australia. If you take your files in there and tell them what you need they will be more than happy to assist you. Alternatively, I offer many options for albums, prints and canvases so if there is something you’re keen to get, feel free to ask me and see if we can include it in your package.

Do you shoot video?

The short answer is no. Sorry!

Are you insured?

I certainly am!

When is the best time to book my session?

There is no best time to book a family session. I love to photograph families any time of the year so feel free to get in touch whenever you’d love to get a session done. A little notice is always helpful of course but if you need something urgently, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Maternity sessions are usually held between 34-36 weeks so try to book sometime before then. Posed newborn sessions ideally need to take place in the first 10 days so I generally ask that newborn sessions be booked before your baby is born. I will pencil you in and then after your birth, we can make a more exact date. This ensures that your spot is secure and you don’t miss out on that small window of time when your baby is still sleepy and curly and fresh.

What will my session be like?

For more information on your sessions have a look at the Session Info page.

Can I arrange a payment plan?

You definitely can! If you'd like to discuss it further, feel free to get in touch so we can arrange something that will work for you.

Can I keep my images private?

For sure! Many of my clients prefer to keep their images just for their friends and family to see and not have online or on public display. That is more than ok with me. Before your session I will ask you to sign a model release and on there you can choose whether to keep your images private or not.
